  • Target Population:

    • Current MCHS Students who are considering dropping out

    • Current MCHS students who are one or more years behind their graduating class

    • Students who have NOT had a history of serious disciplinary infractions

    • Students who, due to unusual circumstances, would benefit from a three-hour school day

    • Young adults who have already dropped out of school

    • Students meeting the minimum BHS requirement of 14 high school credits

  • Overview:

    • The school is designed to serve Meade County and enroll present and former students who are interested in obtaining a high school diploma.  It is located in the Meade County High School building.  The principal, counselor, and teachers were selected and trained to serve the "at risk" student.  The instructional design promotes academic success while the methods and approach is completely different from the "regular" high school.

  • Program Components:

    • The goals of the program are to:

      • provide a positive educational experience for the students

      • provide a program that will lead to a high school diploma

      • provide a strong basic skills program in reading, math, and language.

    • The curriculum includes the standard course of study required for graduation:

    English 4 Credits
    Mathematics 3 Credits
    Science 3 Credits
    Social Studies 3 Credits
    Health/PE 1 Credit
    Visual/Performance Arts 1 Credit
    Electives 7 Credits

    • Instructional Approach:

      • 90 percent of each course is standard in every classroom including lesson assignments, chapter, unit and final exam.  Ten percent of each grade is teacher designed.  Letter grades are awarded based on Meade County Public School grading policy:

      A 93-100
      B 84-92
      C 75-83
      D 65-74
      F Below 65
      • Student grades are based on work done and not on a designated grading period, semester or any specific calendar date.
      • Students must pass each assignment before moving to a new assignment.  This helps to motivate students and does not allow continued failure.
